Location and usual information
Dabas is about 200 kilometers away from Senta.
It is a town in Pest county wich is situated between the rivers Danube
and Tisza.
It is only 45 km from our beautiful capital city Budapest.More information

There are 16000 inhabitants in our town. It can be reached from Bp on
the road numer 5, or on the motorway number M5.
It is in the center of Hungary, near to the exact center point of the
country wich is in Pusztavacs.
Brief History of the Town
Our settlement is more than 700 years old. It was first mentioned in
documents in 1264.
The origin of its name leads back the ancient name of the town wich
was 'Dobos. It means "drummer". The expalnation of it is that
was the place, where the royal drummers lived. Their most important
function was to alert the people when enemies were getting closer.
During the turkish invasion it was depopulated, and repopulated again
in the 18th century for the initiation of the Halasz and Zlinszky landholder
families and satrted to prosper. That was the time when most of the
manors and county houses were built.
The represent town has sprung up the union of four villages Also and
Felsodabas, Sari and Gyon. Sari is the oldest part of the city, but
Alsodabas used to have the greatest importance as during the reform
era in the 19th century when it was the center of the progressive gentry
and so thus it became the administrative center of the region. The separated
parts of the settlement were united in the 1966.
The enlightened thinking bourgeois of Dabas housed the parents, brothers
and sisters of the imprisoned Lajos Kossuth in 1838. He was an outstanding
politician of our reform era, and one of the most imoportant historical
personalities of Hungary. During the independence war in 1849 he was
the governor of the country. After the fallen of the independence war
he went into exile.
The former Kossuth Manor where the father of the great politician spent
the last years of his life is the Kossuth Gallery. The china wret sent
by Lajos Kossuth from Torino for the grave of his father can be seen
at the entrence of the Calvinistic church wich was built in the style
of 14th Louis in 1793. The honorary monument of Kossuth Laszlo is in
the cemetery of Dabas.
A set of classical style mansions and manor- houses were constructed
in the first half of the 19th century among wich 70 are monumental like
buildings providing the most particular sights of the town.
One of the most beautiful and maybe the most famous one of them is the
building of the Noble casino. It was built in calassicist style in 1836.
It is a tipical amazing sample of classical style construction. Nowadays
it is a cultural center.
Other intresting curio about Dabas that it has a 11km long main street,
wich is the longest in the whole country.
Nature protected marshy lands and forests are situated by the town covering
about 150 hectares and the quarry of special orchid species are also
under protection. This a nature conservation area in the is in the neighbouring
of the town.
Surrounding
Ocsa: Not too far away from the town/about 20 km on the road
number 5 in the direction of Budapest/ we can found "Ocsa"
wich is a well know settlement , because of its old premontreian bazilique.
It was built in Romensque style in the 13th century.
Next to it there is a nature consevation area wich is also worth seeing.
In the old cemetery wich was opened in1776 we can admire 500 wooden
headbord on the tombs carved by local wood carver.
On the "Old Mountain" we can visit the tipical, row of cellars
of the town.
Pusztavacs: This settlement is about 20 km from Dabas. There
is a wooden memorial there to represent the geographical center point.
Kecskemét: With its 90 thousand inhabitants it is one of the
most important cities of Hungary.
The distance from Dabas is 40 km. There are a lot of amazing cultural
and historiclal monuments and buildings all around the town.
Just a few exemples. The curch of Kecskemét is the biggest cathedral
of the Great Plain wich was built in a style of XIVth. Louis.
The town hall was built in 1893-94 is a outstanding example of hungarian
art nouveu style.
It was built by the plans of Lechner Ödön and Pártos Gyula Lechner was
the architect of the famous Fishermens Bastion in the castle of Buda.More

Results of the Recent Years
In recent years remarkeble development continued due to several large
investments resulting of important public buildings as the Kossuth Zsuzsanna
Higher Level Vocational School, the kindergarten in Gyon, an old people's
home/Atrium/a new ambulance station, and last but not least the "DS"
the Conference and sport center of Dabas.
The town hall and the Szent István square have been also rebuilt. The
town once was known about its printing house while today the several
internationally known companies settled down in the Industrial Park
next to the town.

The Youth Ambasador Program
As a result of a new diplomatic connection between the towns,
I work as a Youth ambassador of Dabas in the Municipality Office of
Senta.
In the near future we hope that your town will send an ambitious young
diplomat to Dabas. Our functions are getting these two european cities
closer to each other by making the already existing any sort of cultural,economical,tourist,
diplomatic connections deeper and trying to discover the new common
possibilities.
If you need any kind of information or help about Dabas or if you have
any sort of useful ideas or intentions about the program please inform

TÁJOLÓ Tourist Office of Dabas
This office opened in the middle of February. This office
purpose is informing the visitors as far as it can about the touristic
possibilities, sightseeings and events of Dabas.
Different sort of maps and informative publications are reachable here
about Dabas and its surrondings.
They first own issue is the Dabasi „Kínáló” what is a colorful periodical.
You can get the exact information about events in Dabas, the programmes
of organizations and local pleasure grounds from it.
They are going to edit an other brochure also in the summer, which will
contain the programmes and events of other towns in the vicinity of
our town.
The webpage of the touristic and information office is under construction,
on this page all the useful information will be reachable in the near
future. For example you will be able to read about events and topical
programmes of the town and the surroundings.

The Open Air Swimming Pools of Dabas
In june of 2001 the lido of Dabas opened its gate again, after a tventy
years long break. It was almost totally rebuilt as a result of a huge
investment. There are a 25 meters long swimming pool and a special pool
where the depth of the water is gradually increases, as well as two
others, heated /28-30 degrees/. "Splashing" pools for the
children, with slides. There are two lakes next to the pools one of
them is for boathing and the other for fishing. During the summer the
visitors can enjoy lots of cultural and sport events. Every two weeks
on saturdays we organize balls with mediterran atmosphere where usually
1000 guests take part in a memorable night.

Marzipan exhibition in the store of the Szent István square/on the same
